| Why Register Animals?Every animal (or human) deserves a birth certificate, because they are somebody! Take dogs for example. If we keep records of a dog's ancestry, we can find common ancestors before we breed them together. If the common ancestors have the same defect, it may be passed on to the whole litter of pups. If we sell pups as "purebred" - the folk who buy them will breed with them, producing MORE unregistered dogs. Registered dogs can enter dog shows. Their papers are their identification documents. If two competitors owned a dog called Spot, & Spot earned a title, who could prove which dog is which if they had no papers? A registration certificate states who owns the dog, what breed it is, who the dog's parents are, whether there are champions & imported dogs in the pedigree, and the dog's date of birth. A breeder who goes to the trouble of registering the birth of puppies, is perceived to be a proper breeder by people who buy puppies. Buyer's find it reassuring to be given proof of pedigree.
