Japanese Shiba InuShiba Inu means, "Little dog." The Shiba Inu originated in central Japan where they have been used for thousands of years for hunting all kinds of animals. Like their bigger counterpart - the Akita inu - they are fast, cunning, and unafraid. Shibas make good watchdogs. The Shiba Inu has a distinctive bushy tail curled over his back. The thick, short coat has a coarse texture, which keeps the dog warm in the cold, snowy Japanese winters. He has short, erect ears and an alert expression. The eyes are slanted and the face is fox-like. Height: males 39.5 cm at shoulder, females 36.5 cm Class: This Spitz type dog falls in the Utility Group.
