PoodlePoodles normally get on with one another, irrespective of size, age, sex, etc, even if they are all boys. Poodles are often called, "French Poodles" because they became very popular in France as pets. But originally they are thought to have come from Russia or Germany where they were bred to retrieve waterfowl. See origins of dogs. The poodle's coat is dense and curly and was kept short as it became waterlogged while hunting. Nowadays it is customary to give a fancy cut leaving pom-pom on the tail and feet, and a "hat" on the top of the head. Show dogs need to be cut by an expert as a standard is laid down as to how the poodle is to be cut. A pet just needs regular grooming and trimming to keep the coat tidy. Poodles are stylish dogs and make playful, lively house pets. Class: utility Poodles come in four heights: standard poodle: over 38 cms at shoulder miniature: 28 - 38 cms toy: under 28 cms Teacup poodles are popular in USA. A Teacup Poodle is identical to the Standard and Miniature Poodle except in height. These tiny, sensitive little dogs are a perfect pet for a less active person. By nature they are little clowns and enjoy amusing their owners by performing quaint antics. Bright, perky, easy to train and eager to please. Height: 10 inches or smaller Weight: 2 1/2 - 7 lbs. Colors: All solid colors; clear colors are generally preferred. Some people say that such a tiny dog is vulnerable to illnesses.
A "Maltese Poodle" is not a poodle at all! The correct name is "Maltese."

Dogs who enter the showring, have their coats shaved off in parts, and the remaining hair is teased out so it stands off the body in pom-poms.
