Old English Sheepdog
About the Breed The Old English Sheepdog originated in the west of England where they were used to herd sheep. Old English sheepdogs at first glance appear to be all hair! The eyes and the whole dog seem to be buried under a profuse, shaggy, straight, long coat. This breed needs regular grooming to look good. The Old English Sheepdog is a large breed and needs a big yard for exercise. They are good with children, friendly, good-natured, and trainable. They are often nicknamed "Bobtails." Dulux, England, chose the Old English Sheepdog to star in their advertisements because they look so warm and friendly. A well-groomed dog looks good against a well-groomed and freshly painted house! Every tin of Dulux paint carries a picture of an Old English Sheepdog. It's not always the same dog, but many dogs have been used in this long-running advertising campaign which appears on TV, magazines and billboards. Height at shoulder: Males 61 cms, females 56 centimeters. Colour: grey, grizzle, or bluish, with white markings. Class: Herding
The Old English Sheepdog is not to be confused with the Bearded Collie. |
