| | Lusitano Horses
Lusitanos are named after Lucitania, a name the Romans gave to
Portugal. They are considered the oldest breed that is used for riding, rather than
pulling carts or carriages. They originated in Portugal, Europe, and have been
used for bull fighting. They have been ridden in wars and have proved to be
courageous.
Today they are scarce, but breeding programs of these noble
horses have been established. They excel at show jumping and dressage.
Mane: silky, profuse.
Tail: long, low-set, abundant.
Color: Usually gray or bay, but other colors are allowed.
