Horses have been used by man for thousands of
years. Remember the Egyptian horses recorded in Exodus thousands of years
ago. The horse was a means of transport and a beast of burden. In Europe,
the Romans had fast horses to pull their chariots.
Horses have been used to pull the carts of
traders, to plough fields on farms, herd cattle, in rodeos, jousting, to
assist the police and military, racing, to perform in circuses, and to
engage in polo.
A horse can live 30 years, so the decision to buy
one should not be taken lightly. One can buy a pony for a child, but when
the child grows up, what will become of the pony?
Large paddocks are needed for pasture and
exercise. A stable is needed for shelter. Livery will be required for
riding - saddle, bridle, stirrups etc. Then there's strong clothing for
the rider, and shoes for the horse to prevent the hooves wearing down.
That said, horse-riding can be a pleasurable and
worthwhile sport. It can give children, and the disabled, better
self-esteem. A child who is a poor runner, can be as fast as anyone, on a
horse.

A
horse will sometimes bolt and run into danger, refusing to listen to
his master calling him back.
You and I are sometimes like that. We turn away from
God and get into trouble. God is listening, waiting to hear us say
"What have I done?" and to repent and turn back to Him.
Jeremiah chapter 8, verse 6
