| Dominion
Is man superior to the animals? Does man have "dominion" over pets? Is man the boss? If so, who says so? "Dominion" means 1) sovereignty, or rule, or 2) territory of government. Collins Dictionary. A related word is "dominate." Is it OK for man to dominate animals or should we be the companions and equals of our pets? The Bible says man has dominion over the animals! God gave us the animals for our benefit and He expects us to take good care of them in a paternalistic way. The highest heavens belong to the Lord, but the earth He has given to man. Psalm 115, 16
O Lord our God, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens. When I consider the heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him? You made him ruler over the works of your hands; you put everything under his feet; all flocks and herds, and the beasts of the field, the birds of the air, and the fish of the sea.
