Cocker SpanielThe Cocker spaniel is thought to have been developed by huntsmen in UK, but their breeding stock may have come from Spain originally.
The cocker spaniel had to root out woodcock (a bird). Spaniels enjoy splashing through the reeds, hunting for waterfowl and can be trained to retrieve it. The Cocker Spaniel is a descendant of the Springer Spaniel, which was the original English spaniel. Cocker spaniels have sad, imploring eyes.
Grooming is necessary for this breed, to prevent matting. The ears tend to droop into the food & water bowls, so use tall narrow bowls. Height at shoulder: males 39 - 41 cms, females 38 - 39 cms Group: gundog | ||||||||||||||||||||
