The tea thing is going well. Still substituting, tho. I still drink a few cups coffee each day. Not too many. I would not miss it if there were no coffee in the house. I doubt if I’d buy another tin. I bought a jar of instant chicory powder, which makes a hot drink that tastes like coffee, yet it’s caffeine free. My goal now is to kick the tea habit, but going a step farther, to become caffeine-free.
OK, I’m still munching the Christmas chocolates that folk gave me. Choc has caffeine in it. But it’s a luxury that would be easy to live without.
Are you dieting this month in any way?
I’m trying to give up tea. Tea is like a drug to me. I drink it for refreshment, for energy, for comfort, for heat, for any reason. But I’m drinking all day long; it’s the first thing I think of when I get up. I’ve become a tea-addict. One cup is not enough. I must have more. I make the tea in a mug, carry it around the house as I do my chores, lay it down absent-mindedly, waste time searchjng for mug, get new mug – make more tea. I’m almost a chain tea drinker.
I’ve often thought, “This must stop! NOTHING must be my master! Where is my self-control? The Bible says that a benefit of becoming a Christian is self-control. It’s a ‘fruit of the Spirit’”.
A few days ago, I ran out of milk – a crisis in the life of a tea addict. I HAD to get milk for my tea. But the shops are far away and pressure of work prevented me from going to buy milk. So I decided to give up tea!
So now I’m searching for a substitute – not a good idea, I’m sure – but I’ve an addict mentality. Now I start the day with coffee. I don’t like the bitter taste of coffee, especially when I’ve no milk to soften the taste. I refuse to sweeten it with sugar, as that is bad for the health too. There’s no artificial sweetener in the house. I find I can drink this bitter stuff without craving more. So I allow myself a few cups a day, at certain, civilized times. When I start thinking of tea, I’ll eat an apple, carrot, or nuts. I’ll even drink water! I used to joke about drinking water, saying, “I never touch the stuff!” but it’s not as bad as I thought!
Have you resolved to do anything special this year? I like to set goals. Most of them are goals I procrastinated about last year, so it’s good to have a new year to renew the vows, so to speak!
