Bouvier des Flandres

Bouviers are big, powerful dogs, with shaggy coats. The head is large with beard and tousled eyebrows. The thick coat kept these outdoor dogs warm in the cold European winters. Regular brushing and combing is essential to keep the coat from matting. The tail is docked, and for the show ring, the ears are cut to a pointed erect shape.

The Bouvier des Flandres was originally bred to drive cattle on the farms of Flanders, an area which spreads along the north coasts of France and Belgium. Flanders is often depicted in World War movies about Dunkirk. The name "Bouvier" is French, pronounced boo-vee-yay. (yay as is day) It means "oxherd."

A dog is man's best friend! Especially an obedient dog! A dog who does not obey his master makes his master cross! The dog ruins the friendship! It's like that with the friendship between God (the master) and man, too! Jesus said, "You are my friends if you do as I command you!" John chapter 15 verse 14.
