Bolognese dogs get their name from the town of Bologna, in Italy, where they have been known since the 11th & 12th centuries. They are similar to the little bichon Frisé but are more square in appearance. They are sometimes called bichon Bolognese. Maltese dogs may also be ancestors of the Bolognese. Bolognese are obedient and easy to train. They make good companions. Tail: set high over the back. Coat: long, flocked on both head and body. The hair stands away from the body, rather than lying flat. The coat should be combed every day, but never trimmed. Color: white coat, with black button nose, lips and eyelids.
